Welcome to the Magic Market Index. This article series documents the price changes of cards currently in print. This article will track how cards go from release to its time out of Standard, and as long as deemed necessary for non-Standard sets, as well as offer insight into what cards to invest in and what to ignore. The Magic market is a dangerous place, and this article is here to help guide players and speculators through the murky waters to greater returns.
This article will be updated once a week on Thursdays. Currently, this article series is tracking Dragons of Tarkir, Magic Origins, Battle for Zendikar Block (Oath of the Gatewatch, Battle for Zendikar, Zendikar Expeditions) and Shadows Over Innistrad. There are no current plans to track any promo sets or other non-set releases. If it can be opened in a pack, it will be covered.
Card prices are picked on Thursday morning from TCGplayer Mid price, the price used by many for trading cards for cards. Going by the selling price involves whether to go by Ebay, TCGplayer low, Star City Games, or another vendor. It is just simpler and cleaner to go by the trade value of TCGplayer Mid. Comments about cards are the opinions of the author, and should not be taken as facts or divine intervention. That said, comments and predictions are based on data and experience, not on idle speculation or an attempt to move certain cards. Cards that are worth $2.00 USD or more will be on the list. If a card is worth $1.99 or less it will not appear on the list even if it was on the previous week.

Overall Summary
The state of the Magic market is solid and very healthy.
Shadows over Innistrad is now receding in value due to the number of product being opened and all the major card events for the set are done, from the first SCG event to Game Day. The latter means that players are not looking to the best deck as much anymore, and are starting to settle on the deck they like for the rest of Standard, provided nothing meta shifting happens. There will continue to be new brews, but the Pro players and their teams are pretty much done with with trying to solve the format.
This format is a great format for market. There is no dominant deck and the decks are varied. It is not like the Theros/Khans Block where it was Abzan Control, Abzan Midrange, or Abzan Aggro, or like during the days of Mono Black Devotion. This is what Standard and all formats should be, diverse with a good amount of decks being top tier. Esper Dragons, G/W Tokens, Bant Company, the two Rites decks, G/R or U/R Goggles, G/B Control, W/x Humans, and W/B Control. All of those are decks that have made Top 8 in various events. What that means for the market is a large pool cards that players can go after instead of just a narrow band. Further, there a lot of great commons and uncommons that are showing value, like Reflector Mage, Duskwatch Recruiter, Transgress the Mind, Silkwrap, Roast, and Sphinx's Tutelage.
Magic Origins is the best to buy product from if you want to do so. Oath has some decent mythics and rares, and Dragons is always a good second pick with great cards across all rarities. Avoid the other two.
Cards to Watch
Previously, these were predicted to spike:
Bygone Bishop: This did not go up, but it will take a few weeks before this card is realized.
Caves of Koilos: Despite B/W doing well, this card did not go up, and actually went down a few cents.
Crush of Tentacles: This is going to continue rising up.
Dromoka's Command: It went up $0.15, which is not the greatest, but it will keep going up for while.
Eldrazi Displacer: It went $0.09, which is not a great increase, but it still went up more than a few cents.
Lantern Scout: It did not make the list, but this will eventually get there.
Llanowar Wastes: It went up $0.07, so at least it went up.
Lumbering Falls: It continued going up, but its spike is slowly down a lot.
Nissa, Voice of Zendikar: It went up $0.44, so it on an upward tick. If GW Tokens had won, it would have spiked harder.
Ruinous Path: This went on the list of cards to be tracked, so that is an accomplishment.
This week:
Eldrazi Displacer: A new deck has arisen in Four Color Rites, and that could easily raise this price to five or six dollars.
Lambholt Pacifist: This card is seeing a lot of play and could go up to around $1.00 quite easily.
Ruinous Path: This will eventually get to around $5.00, but it will not do it in the next few weeks. It will slowly creep up and then it will spike a dollar or two.
Cards to Avoid
Previously, these were predicted to fall:
Seasons Past: The price is coming down, which does not mean the deck is bad, but that the demand for card and deck have gone down. Either that means the hype on the deck is dead or no one new wants the card.
Drana, Liberator of Malakir: She is one of the sadder disappointments. The B/R Vampires deck has failed to make an appearance in any of the Top 8s.
Archangel Avacyn: She is continuing to drop, and is on track to go to the predicted $36.00.
Hissing Quagmire: It went up, but do not buy into the spike unless you need the card.
For this week:
Archangel Avacyn: Still not worth buying into.
Liliana, Heretical Healer: She has a pretty face, but she will leave you wishing you had left her alone. She is not going to be like Jace.
Part the Waterveil: This card is not worth buying into.

As for Nahiri, I think her spike is fine as she is a strong planeswalker and she seems to have found a home. I said before she was one of the better planeswalkers in Standard. I would not buy into to her for now, and she how she does this weekend,
