Welcome to the Magic Market Index. This article series documents the price changes of cards in print. This article will track how cards go from release to its time out of Standard, and as long as deemed necessary for non-Standard sets, as well as offer insight into what cards to invest in and what to ignore. The Magic market is a dangerous place, and this article is here to help guide players and speculators through the murky waters to greater returns.
This article will be updated once a week on Wednesdays. This will give time to let the market adapt to changes in the meta and the market, as well as being late enough in the week that it is not completely unreliable prior to going into the Magic: the Gathering weekend events.
Currently, this article series is tracking Khans of Tarkir Block (Khans of Tarkir, Fate Reforged, and Dragons of Tarkir), Magic Origins, and Battle for Zendikar Block (Oath of the Gatewatch, Battle for Zendikar, Zendikar Expeditions). There are no current plans to track any promo sets or other non-set releases. If it can be opened in a pack, it will be covered.

Set Summary
As expected, the set is settling after its time brand new set. The set will go down for awhile, with cards that perform well going up. Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet is most likely going to be the most valuable card as most of the high priced cards are falling and fast. The value of a box is simply not there anymore. Even opening an Expedition will not automatically guarantee getting your money's worth, though you are in a good position if you do. |

Jace, Vryn's Prodigy continues to dominate the Standard market, and will most likely for a while. The set is overall ticking up, which is a good sign the market is returning to health after the Battle for Zendikar block has been a disaster for the Standard market.

Set Summary
Collected Company's stock went way up due to two of the top decks in Standard relying on that card. This is one of the few cards to buy into the hype as this card is not going to drop too much due to its use in Modern. It is not a mass investment card, but it you can pick up some copies for a good deal, do it. |

Fetches are good. What a shocking revelation. Real estate is what always matters the most in decks, regardless of the format or deck.
Unsurprising, Monastery Swiftspear went up. The U/R "Delver" deck is looking good. Modern is going to drive this price up. This card is a good target for long term speculation, as even though it can be reprinted, it is doubt it will ever be brought back to Standard. |

Overall Summary
Standard is trying to figure out where it is going. Collected Company based decks are on the uptick, and grinding and/or controlling decks are falling by the wayside as they are too slow to beat the current top decks. However, that does not mean those decks are gone. Part of Standard is the flow of the meta, and as the meta adjusts to the next winning deck, a new or old deck will arise.
Card to Watch
Reflector Mage (0.95): This will be the most expensive uncommon in Standard in the next few months.
Card to Avoid
Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet: This card is on the hype train. It will settle down to around ten after the hype wears off.

Posted Feb 4, 2016Honesty, no. Unless Modern radically changes and becomes a lot slower of a format as a result the loss of Twin and Bloom, then it is not going to seeing to see any serious play. In Standard, it is going to see play because games can get to six lands with some frequency and there has been a lack of generically good two drops in Green.
