Predicting the Super Bowl through Magic
The Super Bowl is the single largest sporting event in the United States and one of the biggest in all the world. For 40 years, the game has been a staple in the American calendar year. For the first time in Super Bowl history the Pittsburgh Steelers and Seattle Seahawks will meet. The teams have traveled down two different roads, but will meet head-to-head on Feb 5th at 6:00pm EST on ABC.
The Steelers have become road warriors by becoming only the second team in history to accomplish three road wins to reach the big dance. The '85 Patriots were the first team to do this, but the Steelers hope not to repeat history the same way they did. The Pats got hammered by the Bears 46-10, which at the time was the single largest blow-out in Super Bowl history. The Steelers had some luck on the way as all teams do, but they're dancing mostly due to the physical smash-you-in-the-mouth play. They beat the Bengals in the first round, but I feel if Carson Palmer had not gotten hurt on his first pass attempt for 50 yards the Steelers would not be talked about. They went into Indianapolis, the 2-to-1 favorites to win the Super Bowl at the time, where Joey Porter and Troy Polamalu killed the Colts. The team marched on to Denver and repeated the win in a big fashion. The Steelers have become the first sixth seed to reach the Super Bowl.
The Seahawks have won their last two playoff home games, beating the Redskins without the help of the MVP who was sidelined with a concussion. Then the NFC favorite Carolina Panthers came to town and got the piss beaten out of them. I wasn’t at the games, but on the couch with friends downing a large amount of tequila, I still felt I was a part of the action.
You may be asking yourself why is there a football article on a Magic site. This I can explain. I never like asking people who they like to win; they don't know and neither do you. I wanted to find a fun and easy way to predict this game. So I turned to Magic, and decided to make decks that are images of the teams by players, coaching staff the method of play.
The first team is the Pittsburgh Steelers with a Black/White deck.
Exalted Angel: Like Jerome Bettis(the bus), this angel just runs right over other creatures and provides both a emotional and physical lift.
Reclusive Wight Pittsburgh has great receivers, but they need someone to help to do their jobs, much like this big fattie.
Angelic Wall: a small part of the offensive line.
Withered Wretch: Heath Miller serves many functions on the Pittsburgh offense, as this little guy does the same for his team.
Greel, Mind Raker: He's big, he's bad, he's not really a QB, but like a QB he can change a game on one play.
Swords to Plowshares: Like Troy Polamalu, you always have to game plan for this card.
Chrome Mox: Can strike quick sometimes.
Vindicate: Overall physical defense.
Engineered Plague: More of the great offensive line.
Kaervek's Spite Two minute drill.
Night's Whisper: Water and rest.

The deck is physical and plays tough and controls the board through forceful removal.
The Seahawks are a quick strike team on offense as they finished the year with the second-rated offense in the NFL. Follow that up with a very quick and sack-happy defense, and the Seahawks are a pure G/U aggro deck.
Silvos, Rogue Elemental: Matt Hasselbeck is much like Silvos in that they both are very thick headed and they have the ability to change the game.
Kodama of the North Tree: I felt the MVP should be someone like him. The fact is Kodama is big, bad and is hard to take out of game, much like Shawn.
Morphling: The Seattle offense is much like him as it can change in a second.
Albino Troll, Wild Mongrel: The Seattle receivers are quick, strong and physical.
Brainstorm, Deep Analysis: Water and rest.
Desert Twister: The Seattle D can take some parts of your game away.
Echoing Truth: Lofa Tatupu and the young linebackers.
The deck is a aggro deck with some options for control and has some answers as does the defense, not all the answers but some. The deck is mainly aggro as it copies the Seahawks game plan.
Just like the real game, the decks will play four games that equal the four quarters. Overtime will be used if the decks split the 4 games.
The Steerlers came out strong with the defense stopping Mongrels and Trolls from taking over the game. Then angels started to pop up and gave the Steelers a 9-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Again, the defense in the form of the linebackers (Cursed Scrolls) controlled the game hitting anything that moved and dealing a large amount of damage to the 'Hawks. The 'Hawks did get a hit in with a feild goal and bringing the Steelers down to 7 life before angels came for the emotional lift. The Steelers lead at half time 16-3 over the 'Hawks.
Halftime did something to the 'Hawks as they came out and smashed the defense for 14 unanswered points. The MVP and Matt Hasselbeck came out and scored mightily as they are now within striking distance of the Steelers only down 19-17.
This one was for the history books. A grind-it-out quarter as both teams battled hoping that overtime will not come. Big Ben and the bus controlled for as long as they could till Lofa and company came out of the woodwork and just stopped them with Twisters and the power of truth. The Seahawks full back Folk of the Pines (Matt Strong) got big and was beating for 5 damage a turn. The 'Hawks didnt give up even when the Steelers added two field goals late. They were down eight, and then out of nowhere the MVP shows his stuff once again and scores then seconds later puts the 2-point conversion in the end-zone to tie it up 25 all.
It's too bad overtime was nothing compared to the 3rd and 4th quarters as the Hawks put it away with a first turn Mongrel, then second turn Troll followed two turns later by Hasselback. The 'Hawks got to the end-zone on a 40 yard TD catch by Darrel Jackson (Wild Mongrel).
So, through playing these games I have concluded that the Seahawks will win the Super Bowl in overtime 31-25.
You can proxy the decks and play with them at home to see if you get the same result!
