MTGCast Episode 79 - Tribal Wars, Weatherlight, Promos and more!
"You read it somewhere else, but you heard it here first!"

This Week in Magic
We are back and there is a lot of news over the past few weeks, so let's go! Morningtide info leaked with 150 cards, different rarity breakdown and numerous theories. Just in time for the holidays, Duel Decks: Elves vs Goblins is available on MTGO and paper magic. States, Champs and GP Krakow have revealed the breakout of the Mannequin B/U snow deck and is what was played by Gavin and Chris Otwell to his second place Colorado finish, here is Chris Otwell's decklist. City Champs location oddities - Under the "Los Angeles" locale, stores are listed for Hawaii and Saipan. rodfan316 of the MTGSalvation forums notes the huge distances between stores in locales, perhaps a way to prevent players from trying their luck in multiple stores? The release of Weatherlight for MTGO appears to be getting close with beta ending November 30th and the release of two avatar pics - Peacekeeper and Morinfen. Tribal Wars store events are kicking off with one-day event on December 1st, make a standard legal deck based off of a Lorwyn tribe (Elves, Elementals, Faeries, Giants, Goblins, Kithkin, Merfolk, Treefolk). Interested in playing "The Cube" alternate draft format that Gavin and many other players are talking about? Then check out this link with more info, history and how to build your own "Cube".

Promo Parade
A one-time event to review all of the upcoming promo cards. Foil promo Mirari's Wake to be given out at Worlds in December - just for showing up (mentioned in BDM's article on Nov 9th! Foil GP promo for 2008 is Call of the Herd. Japanese Arena foil Mad Auntie (with a different "star burst" foiling technique) and apparently WoTC has 3 unique foiling techniques, who knew?

MTGCast News
Tom greatly enjoyed the Lorwyn novel by Cory Herndon and Scott McGough and highly recommends it to all. He especially likes how the Treefolk, Flamekin and Faeries were portrayed and now officially hates those racist Elves. Question to the listeners who read the novels, does the way certain tribes or characters are portrayed affect what cards you would use in a deck?

The winner this week of the Akroma, Angel of Wrath is ... Lotus! Bonus prize of a German Mana Vault to The Elven Elemental.
