Feb 10th: The giveaway is official closed! Winners will be announced in the next few days!
To celebrate the new MTGSalvation site going well and truly live, we're hosting a Theros giveaway! To participate, just post here in the comment section telling us about your favorite Magic card!
The Rules of the Giveaway
- Each winner will get 6 Theros booster packs.
- We will randomly draw 15 winners from those who participate.
- For legal reasons, we are only able to ship to the following countries: US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, France, Germany and the UK. If you do not have a delivery address in one of these countries, you will not be able to win the giveaway.
- Each user may only enter once. Multiple posts on the same account will count as one entry. Those caught entering more than once using multiple accounts will be disqualified.
- If you don't name your favorite Magic card, we won't know if you're explicitly entering the giveaway or not, so we won't be able to take your comment as an entry into the giveaway.
- Staff members (moderators, global moderators & administrators) are welcome to post their favourite Magic card, but they won't be entered into the giveaway.
The giveaway will end on the 10th February at 5PM CST, just 7 days from now!
My favorite card is also all about change, Grip of Chaos is my all time favorite card because sometimes we just need a little chaos to shake things up.
Also, favorite card for me has got to be Dungrove Elder. Absurdly large within a few turns, hard to remove, full of GREEN flavor. Gotta love it.
Plus it's a peaceful card. A library in the woods? I can almost hear the sparrows calling to each other as a deer walks up to eat some food out of a newborn lamb's hand. And then I shoot them all with a burn combo that I just paid 8 life for to activate in a turn. That I got from their precious library. My library now! Stupid cute wildlife.
I suppose it comes down to the card that, when you're up against the wall, it helps to define how and why you play.
I play a lot of EDH, which, due to its singleton nature, doesn't really get to have a signature card. Looking back to when I played Standard, I usually played a lot of silly decks, and Quest for Ula's Temple isn't a great pick for Favorite Card. So, we'll go to the only Tier 1 Standard deck I ever played: Vampires, right about when Vampires, America Control, and Jund were the big three in the Alara block. And the one card I would take from that deck, the one card I wish was still in Standard after all these years, the card that saved my bacon over and over and still got to swing in for 2, is...
Gatekeeper of Malakir.
There are more explosive cards, more utility cards, more game-changing cards, and more expensive cards. But when I sit down, look at a Standard card pool, and look for the inevitable mono-black aggro deck in it, I don't look for the next Nantuko Shade, or Desecration Demon, or Phyrexian Obliterator, or Geralf's Messenger, because there will always be a card like that. But there has never been as efficient a creature for mono-black aggro, in my opinion, than turn 3 Gatekeeper.
